Islington Giving gives grants to organisations and projects in Islington to alleviate the effects of poverty and isolation on local people. Over 90% of respondents to the 2017 members’ were in favour of iU3A continuing to support Islington Giving. Yet only a third said they had made a donation themselves. So we have been considering how we can make giving easier for members and increase the number who contribute.

In previous years we have raised money through specific events and by having a donation page on the website. For this year we are repeating these two methods but adding a new dimension. We suggest that during June, all group members will be asked to make a voluntary donation of say £1 or more if you wish. The Group Coordinators (or a group member) will collect the donations and transfer the money via the donate link above through VirginMoney to Islington Giving. Of course we stress that making a donation is entirely voluntary.

iU3A recognisesBoundary 2015 that it is part of our local community and actively supports Islington Giving which works to improve the lives of the most disadvantaged people in Islington by supporting organisations and projects that reduce poverty and isolation. Islington has much affluence but remains London's 5th poorest borough and the UK's 14th most disadvantaged. It has the second highest rate of child poverty in the country. So there are compelling reasons to contribute to Islington Giving’s work. Their administration costs are covered by the Cripplegate Foundation, so all its income goes to charitable work. Last year, we held a number of events and managed to raise just over £1500.  This year, we’re aiming to hold similar events. We hope that you will find the events enjoyable and that you will support Islington Giving by taking part in some or all of them or by just making a donation however large or small by donating now. Sherlock HolmesThe events we are organising this year include:
Sunday 4 June "A Clues Trail" — similar in format to the one last year. Teams will follow provided directions and clues to observe hidden sights within the Bank area of the City. It's about a 4 mile trail through the back streets of historic London in the City area. There are about 40 things to spot en route but there are also some cryptic pub names to work out as well. You can form your own team (of 5) beforehand or come along and you'll be allocated a team on the day. This year, to avoid the slow staggered start (& finish) times of last year, each teams first clue will be at different points on the route. But the start point for all will be a pub central to the circular route. Start times will be from 13.00. But come earlier (from 12.00) if you want to join us and order a pub lunch. It should take about 3 hours (from your start time) — depending on how good you are — and then there will be a prize giving at the end.
This year entrance per person will be £5.00 (all going to Islington Giving). Get your ticket soon to reserve a space. Tickets available in advance from here

Tuesday 6 June
Computer/Tablet Help Session — note this is now CANCELLED due to lack of interest.

Boundary 2014
Wednesday 14 June — Walk To The Borough — this year we'll not be trying to stick to the boundary of Islington but instead we'll start further out in Barnet and then work our way in to Islington Borough. You can still join at any point, and leave at any point. You don't have to do the whole length. The route details below (in the linked file) show all the opt in (& opt out) points. Again to ensure a contribution to Islington Giving we'll be asking for a voluntary donation of £10 per entrant — but why not try to get yourself sponsored and raise more from your friends. If you want to sign up to come on this walk, please sign here.
For more route details click here.

If you can't make any of above events so can't donate that way nor are you keen to donate on-line by the link above, but you are in an Interest Group, we have asked the Coordinators to help facilitate your giving. Sherlock HolmesThey will collect any donations you wish to make.
